P6 LED – Small Size
The P6 LED is a bench-top polariscope with an inspection area of 24 x 17.5 cm, ideal for analyzing internal stress in plastic and glass materials.
It features a LED light source that backlights a lower polarizing filter. To perform the inspection, the sample is placed on the illuminated surface beneath the upper polarizing filter, which reveals stress patterns within the material.
For larger or irregularly shaped items, the upper filter can be removed, and the sample can be viewed using the polarized glasses provided.
It’s an adaptable setup, ideal whether you’re testing small items or larger parts.
Polariscopes – Internal Stress Analysis in Plastic and Glass
Used in labs and production, polariscopes are tools for spotting stress hidden inside transparent parts.
The process works by passing light from a controlled source through a polarizing filter, which then illuminates the sample. If the material is under internal stress—due to processing, uneven cooling, or mechanical pressure—interference patterns appear when viewed through a second polarizing filter. These stresses show up as colorful fringes or shifts in brightness.
Typical applications include:
- Inspection of optical plastic components (lenses, screens, filters): useful for detecting residual stress in mounted lenses, helping to avoid optical distortion in sunglasses and preventing microfractures in polycarbonate lenses.
- Verification of PET bottles and other transparent containers.
- Quality control in plastic injection molding processes.
- Inspection of thermally tempered glass.
For manufacturers, polariscopes are key to spotting hidden stress that could affect strength or optical clarity.
