DB4
The DB4 is designed to perform impact resistance tests on sunglasses mounted on a headform, in accordance with ISO 18526-3:2020.
It supports two levels of testing:
- Strength Level 1: A 16 mm steel ball (minimum 16 g) is dropped from a height of 1.27 meters onto the sample.
- Strength Level 2: A 22 mm steel ball (minimum 43 g) is dropped from the same height.
The drop height is adjustable, and the ball is held in place by a magnet, then released using a lever mechanism.
The headform used for testing is built with a rubberized exterior and a solid aluminum core for realistic and reliable testing.
It is built in compliance with ISO 18526-4:2020, size 1-M.
Drop ball test devices
Drop ball test devices are used to assess the impact resistance of sunglass lenses and safety eyewear.
During the test, the lens or eyewear sample is placed on a stable, rigid support. A steel ball is then dropped from a specific height, freely and without additional force, directly onto the surface of the sample.
After the impact, the sample is inspected for any visible damage—like cracks, breakage, or permanent deformation.
The test is considered successful if no damage is found that could compromise the product’s safety or functionality.
